Email verification

Know if an email address is real before you send

We check the syntax, the domain, the mail server and the mailbox itself, flag catch-all, disposable and role addresses, and tell you in plain words whether to send.

How it works

Four checks, one clear answer

  1. Syntax and typos. Malformed addresses are caught, and slips like gmial.com get a suggested fix.
  2. Domain and mail servers. We confirm the domain exists and has servers that accept email.
  3. The mailbox itself. We ask the mail server whether the mailbox exists, then hang up before any message is sent.
  4. A verdict you can act on. Deliverable, risky, undeliverable or unknown, with the reason in plain words.
What we check

Every address, six ways

Each check removes a different kind of bad address. Together they catch what bounces, what never gets read and what hurts your sender reputation.

Syntax

Catches typos and malformed addresses, and suggests fixes like gmial.com → gmail.com.

Domain & MX

Confirms the domain exists and has mail servers that accept email.

Mailbox (SMTP)

Asks the mail server whether the mailbox exists, without sending a message.

Catch-all

Detects domains that accept every address, where a mailbox can’t be confirmed.

Disposable

Flags about 10,000 temporary-inbox providers that vanish after sign-up.

Role & free

Marks shared inboxes like info@ and sales@, and free webmail providers.

Bulk & API

Clean a list in minutes, or verify at sign-up

Upload a CSV with up to 50,000 rows. We find the email column, check every address and give it back with a verdict on each row. Or call the API from your sign-up form to stop bad addresses at the door.

# Verify one address curl https://emailfortify.com/api/v1/[email protected] \ -H "Authorization: Bearer eft_…" { "verdict": "deliverable", "reason": "accepted", "score": 97, "checks": { "disposable": false, "role": false, … } }
Questions

How verification works

How can you tell if a mailbox exists without emailing it?

We connect to the domain’s mail server and start the conversation a real message would: we say who we are, give a sender, and name the recipient. The server says whether it would accept mail for that recipient. Then we hang up before any message is sent.

What does “catch-all” mean?

Some domains accept mail for every address, real or not, and sort it out later. For those, the server always says yes, so no verifier can confirm a specific mailbox. We test a random address on each domain to spot them and mark their addresses as risky.

What does “unknown” mean?

The mail server didn’t give a clear answer: it was unreachable, asked us to try later (greylisting), or refuses verification requests. Unknown addresses aren’t charged differently, and retrying later sometimes gets an answer.

Is this accurate for Gmail, Outlook and Yahoo?

Gmail and Outlook answer clearly for their own addresses. Yahoo and AOL accept every address during the check, so their mailboxes show as catch-all (risky).

Do you keep my lists?

Uploaded lists and results are deleted 30 days after upload, or sooner when you delete them. We never email the addresses you check or share them with anyone.
